There are many kinds of music and dance in Hong Kong culture. Cantopop and Cantonese Opera are the two kinds of music that is very popular worldwide. Cantopop is a sort of pop music drawing its influence not only from other forms of Chinese music, but also from a variety of international styles comprising jazz, rock and roll, rhythm and blues, electronic music, Western pop music and others.
Another very famous long tradition of music in Hong Kong is the Cantonese Opera. It is a kind of musical drama, which uses the Cantonese dialect. Cantonese opera pieces are classified either as “theatrical� or “singing stage�. The theatrical style of music is further classified into Western music and Chinese music. While the “singing stage� style is always Western music, the theatrical style can be Chinese or Western music.
Moreover, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra is a very popular traditional music in Hong Kong. This Orchestra involves various stringed instruments as companions of the music. In addition, there are some other popular orchestra groups in Hong Kong including Chinese Orchestra, Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra, and City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong.
Dance is also considered as a very important section of the tradition of Hong Kong. From classical ballet to contemporary Chinese dance, Hong Kong has a variety of dances and shows them off from North America, Europe and the rest of Asia.
